"I sleep with the bed elevated and I sleep without my sleep apnea mask. I use it for my back, my feet everything. I just sleep in a recline position and sleep all night long. I did have swelling in my feet, my legs and cramps but I don't have anymore since I have been sleeping in the Sleep Magic Adjustable Bed. I would buy the Sleep Magic Adjustable bed if I had to do it all over again."

“Some believe you can accomplish more if you spend less time sleeping, but limited sleep can affect every aspect of your life, including job performance,” said Dr. Bert Jacobson, Better Sleep Month spokesperson and author of the new study Subjective Rating of Perceived Back Pain, Stiffness and Sleep Quality Following Introduction of Medium-Firm Bedding Systems. “In fact, sleep deprivation impacts your level of alertness, your productivity and your ability to socially interact with colleagues.”

Sleep to Succeed. Studies estimate that sleep deprivation currently costs U.S. businesses nearly $150 billion annually in absenteeism and lost productivity. And Better Sleep Month survey respondents reported sleep deprivation impaired their quality and accuracy of work (31 percent), clear thinking or judgment (31 percent) and memory of important details (30 percent).

Why People Buy Adjustable Beds

People buy adjustable beds for many reasons. The first reason they buy adjustable beds is because they have interupted sleep at night. Usually the interruption in sleep is caused by a health problem or aching muscle and joints that are aggravated while they lie flat. When they lie flat they distribute pressure along their shoulders, arms, hip and legs causing their body discomfort and sometimes pain.

If you have aching shoulders or hips you have probably noticed the pain intensifies from the pressure when you lie flat. As a result you wake up tired, achy and exhausted, you may wake up more tired in the morning than when you went to bed. You may have trouble concentrating during the day.

Sleeping on a Sleep Magic Adjustable bed with your head up and your feet elevated can distribute your weight evenly taking the pressure off your sore body. This postion can give your aching muscles and joints a chance to rest, recuperate and repair for the next day while you sleep at night. As a result of better sleep on a Sleep Magic Adjustable bed you wake up rested and more alert. You are ready to take on any challage during the day.

Choosing The Right Bed Can Help You Live With Back Pain

Every year up to 40% of the population - over 16 million of us - will suffer a bout of back pain and if you're one of the unlucky ones, you will find that the state of your bed will quickly become a priority. A good bed, providing correct support and comfort, has an important role to play in relieving and preventing back pain. Here are some tips:

A bigger bed will be of benefit both for the back pain sufferer and for their partners - with less partner disturbance.

Think also about the height of the bed: can you get in and out of it with relative ease? An adjustable bed might be an option if this is an area of particular concern - it also offers variable sleeping positions.

Many mattresses need to be turned regularly to ensure even wear and tear. If this is likely to prove difficult (and good quality mattresses are heavy!) then look for a mattress which does not need regular turning - there are a number of options of all types of construction now on the market

Pay attention also to choosing the correct pillow which must support the neck neck in alignment with the rest of the spine. Too many pillows thrust the head forward or sideways (depending on your sleeping position); too few allow the head to tip backwards: both create a crick in the neck.

Sleeping on a Sleep Magic Adjustable bed with your head elevated and your knees slightly flexed can position your spine in a comfortable position while you sleep. Sleeping in this position can give your back a chance to rest and recuperate while you sleep. Many of our customers report that after sleeping in this position in the Sleep Magic Adjustable bed their back pain was not as intense during the day.

Ground Breaking Sleep Study.

Back in 1988, a ground-breaking study by sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski found that swapping an uncomfortable old bed for a comfortable new one could account for an average of 42 minutes' extra sleep - four times that achieved by over the counter sleep aids.

So, if you need to improve the quality of your sleep, one of the most important things you need to do is to make sure you're sleeping on the right bed.

Snoring: Silent Killer

Have you been suffering from mysterious headaches?  Are you tired, in the middle of the day—for no reason at all?  Are your loved ones complaining that you’re especially irritable or moody?

Amazingly, the root of all these problems may just be your snoring.  And unfortunately, snoring may be the sign of a whole range of other, more serious health problems.

Snoring—besides being bothersome to your bedmate—is a common symptom of obstructive sleep apnea.   This condition, also known as OSA, actually causes you to stop breathing while you sleep; and often hundreds, if not thousands of times per night.

This halt in breathing occurs when your tongue, throat and jaw muscles relax, which then cause your airway to be blocked.  When breathing stops, the body reacts with a momentary spike in blood pressure.  Because these jagged halts in breathing can occur hundreds of times nightly, the effects are multiplied—and truly dangerous.

As a result, OSA has been proven to cause a range of serious health problems, including:

•    Heart attacks
•    Hypertension
•    Heart disease and plaque buildup
•    Strokes
•    Depression
•    Diabetes

Unfortunately, diagnosis and treatment for OSA is often overly expensive, ineffective—or both.  Because they are conducted by licensed sleep centers, they involve an overnight stay, which is obviously very time-consuming.

For tempory relief of Obstructive Sleep Apnea at night is sleeping in a Sleep Magic Adjustable bed with your head elevated. Sleeping in this position can keep the air passage open preventing the soft tissue from rolling back blocking your airway.

A Good Night's Sleep.

A good night’s sleep, just like proper diet and exercise, is essential to your mental, emotional and physical health. Yet many people just do not get the seven to eight hours of sleep each night recommended by sleep experts. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Better sleep can be as simple as sleeping on a better mattress!

Did you know that people who get enough sleep (about 7-9 hours a night) are more likely to have higher productivity, feel more energetic throughout the day, and experience less stress? Sleep is crucial for concentration, memory formation, and repairing and rejuvenating the cells of the body. Both mentally and physically, a good night's sleep is essential for your health and your energy.

The Problem - Waking Up at Night

Unfortunately, experts estimate that more than 70 million Americans have persistent trouble falling or staying asleep. If you are one of the millions of people who suffer, you know how frustrating it can be to lie awake in bed at night, tossing and turning.

Finding an effective remedy is difficult. Some sleep aids require a visit to your doctor, dealing with unpleasant side effects, and facing the possibility of becoming dependent on the drugs. Even over-the-counter sleep aids can be habit-forming. But don't worry, you don't have to suffer through another sluggish morning.

The Solution - Staying Asleep, and Waking Up Refreshed: A Sleep Magic Adjustable Bed

Why lack of sleep is as dangerous as too much alcohol

You wouldn’t dream of loading up the neighborhood carpool after drinking a couple of glasses of wine, but how often do you think twice before getting into your car if you’re tired? Sleep deprivation, which impairs motor skills, encourages unnecessary risk-taking and causes higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression, can be as dangerous as alcohol intoxication when it comes to performing day-to-day activities.

What you don’t feel could hurt you

The scary part is – cognitive ability and judgment can be impaired even if you don’t feel fatigued. This is in part because our bodies can “train” themselves to believe we need less sleep than we actually do. These dangers are especially troublesome when you’re behind the wheel.

Drowsy driving equal to drunk driving

We’ve all been there… driving late at night when your body is beyond exhausted. We blast the radio, crank the air conditioning and power forward on our journey. Just how dangerous is the common practice of driving on too little sleep? It’s estimated that 16-60 percent of road accidents involve sleep deprivation!

That’s not surprising since a lack of sleep slows reaction times, but this just may surprise you… drivers that are awake 17-19 hours are more dangerous at the wheel than those with a blood alcohol level of .05 percent. That’s the legal limit for drunk driving in most western European countries! Read our road-warrior sleep tips to help stay awake here

Use sleep to your advantage

Consequently, getting a good night’s sleep enhances your ability to make decisions. Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst recently studied the effects of sleep on a group of young people who were made to play a card game with varying amounts of sleep. They found that those who had a normal night's sleep were more likely to win and understand the underlying rules of the game – an important part of making sound decisions – than those who spent their 12-hour break awake.

The takeaway: if you have an important decision to make, or need to be focused and alert – be sure to get your Z’s. Fortunately, there are a lot of little things you can do each day to get those extra minutes of sleep, click here for helpful sleep tips.

Types of Sleep Apnea

In Central Sleep Apnea, your brain fails to send the signals to inhale and exhale to the muscles that control your breathing. When your breathing is interrupted, the level of carbon dioxide in your blood rises, which may prompt you to breathe again, and possibly wake up. Patients with Central Sleep Apnea generally experience less sleepiness during the day than people with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a breathing problem that only occurs when we sleep. The upper airway keeps blocking because the tongue and upper muscles in the throat relax causing an obstruction in breathing (“apnea”) lasting 10 – 60 seconds. This obstruction or pause in breathing occurs every 12 minutes and in severe cases as often as every 30 seconds. The pauses are followed by gasping, snoring, or thrashing around.

Mixed Sleep Apnea is a combination of obstructive and central sleep apnea.

What are the most common Symptoms?

Higher risk people include those with obesity, a thick neck, and those who drink alcohol prior to bedtime. Unfortunately, only 5% of patients are diagnosed and treated for their obstructive sleep apnea. Please visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Sleeping on a Sleep Magic Adjustable bed can help you sleep better with sleep apnea. Sleeping with your head up in an elevated position can aid in keeping your airway unobstructed while you sleep. Sleep.

It refreshes us like nothing else. It can be occasionally elusive, almost always comforting, and definitely essential to our survival. And although we spend 33% of our lives asleep, we barely give it a moment's notice....until we can't sleep. Then we think about it to the point of obsession.

For millions of people, the consequences of a poor night's sleep – higher stress, increased mistakes, difficulty concentrating – are every day occurrences. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Dear Sirs,
"I want to write a note to tell you how I have enjoyed my Sleep Magic Adjustable bed. I have sleep apnea and ankle swelling; since I have been sleeping in the Sleep Magic Adjustable bed I no longer have to sleep with my CPAP and I no longer have swelling in my ankles in the mornings. I am able to elevate my Sleep Magic Adjustable bed to a comfortable position with the remote control to help me with my health problems. I find that the Sleep Magic Adjustable bed is a comfortable bed and I am able to go to bed earlier at night and I sleep much longer. When I slept on my old flat bed it took me hours to fall a sleep some nights and I was lucky to get 2 or 3 hours of sleep. I would wake up with achy joints and I was more tired in the morning than when I went to bed. Your bed has changed all that for me. I feel a lot better now" Thank You Sleep Magic Adjustable Bed Co. Bill. Cleburne, Texas.

The importance of quality sleep for seniors

No matter what your age, sleeping well is essential to your physical health and emotional well-being. As we age, a good night’s sleep is especially important because it improves concentration and memory formation, allows your body to repair any cell damage that occurred during the day, and refreshes your immune system which helps to prevent disease.
Many seniors complain about sleep problems such as:

To feel your best, you need a good night’s sleep, and you may be surprised that keeping yourself active and engaged, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly can improve how well you sleep.

Seven hours the magic number for sleep: study

People who sleep more or fewer than seven hours a day, including naps, are increasing their risk for cardiovascular disease, a United States study shows.

Sleeping fewer than five hours a day, including naps, more than doubles the risk of being diagnosed with angina, coronary heart disease, heart attack or stroke, the study conducted by researchers at West Virginia University's (WVU) faculty of medicine and published in the journal Sleep says.

The study found sleeping more than seven hours also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Study participants who said they slept nine hours or longer a day were one-and-a-half times more likely than seven-hour sleepers to develop cardiovascular disease.

The most at-risk group was adults under 60 years of age who slept five hours or fewer a night.
